Reed's background and experience includes more than 15 years in both general business brokerage and mergers and acquisitions; this encompasses work on several hundred business transactions over his career. Reed is one of only 600 Certified Business Intermediaries (CBI) in the world, as designated by the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA), a professional organization of over 1700 mergers and acquisition professionals. Reed is very comfortable working with both middle-market companies (companies with sales of $ 10-100 MM per year), as well as with smaller companies (companies with sales of $ 750K to $ 10,000,000 per year).
Prior to founding , Reed was the Executive Vice President of a large Southeast based intermediary firm, where he was consistently the "top" producing intermediary there for nearly ten consecutive years. Prior to his 15 years of experience in M&A work, Reed held various senior level management positions with several large publicly traded and privately held companies, including W.R. Grace Inc, Gilbert/Robinson Inc., and many others. Reed graduated Summa Cum Laude from Johnson & Wales University, with a BS degree in Foodservice Management and with an AS degree in Culinary Arts as well. Reed is a dedicated individual who places an extremely high degree of effort in both his work and his family life. His expertise is securing the "RIGHT" buyer for the business owner/seller. Over his career, he has developed a thorough and proven process, which is implemented on most every transaction, depending on the needs and desires of the seller. Reed’s highly successful track record has proven his processes work and are in the best interests of the business owner/seller. The business owner can maximize the highest value for their business and still maintain the strictest of confidentiality. He is able to custom tailor a unique marketing program, which is specifically designed and developed for each business owner, as no two business owners or businesses are alike and each person’s situation is quite unique.
Reed's strengths are in selling manufacturing, health care, distribution, and service-related companies. Some specific areas of his expertise include selling ambulance service companies, child care center chains, specialty printers, flexo/rotogravure printers & packaging, OEM equipment manufacturers, transportation equipment/body manufacturers, coin laundry chains, marinas, building supply manufacturers and various types of distribution companies and many others.

Charlene joined Southeast Business Exchange in 2007, following a successful career as Vice President of Billing for a publicly traded company. Charlene has extensive experience in revenue assurance, back office systems, computer programming, project management, billing, telecom, audit and controls, and personnel management.
Her expertise in the Mergers and Acquisitions arena affords her the knowledge to counsel and facilitate transactions of both small and mid-sized businesses.
Charlene’s drive for excellence and her focus on maximizing shareholder value are essential in the sale of any business. Her integrity, passion and “get it done” attitude are widely acknowledged and she is considered among her peers to be a top closer. She is an expert at bringing compatible clients together and making the transaction a win/win for all parties.
Charlene holds a Masters Degree in Instructional Systems Design and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics Education, both from the University of NC At Charlotte. She is a Certified Business Intermediary (CBI) and is a member of the IBBA and CVBBA.
Ashley Bumgarner
Director, Business Development
Joining SEBX as Office Manager, she brings her expertise in organizational structure. She serves the business by ensuring a smooth internal process, which allows the CBIs to focus on the client. Ashley graduated from Appalachian State University in 2004, earning a BSBA (Economics and International Business) and a BA (French). She has aided both small businesses and large corporations in fine-tuning procedure and structure, and has extensive knowledge and experience in facilitating transactions. Ashley is also currently a coach for a local club swim team and enjoys working with teenage athletes as a supplement to her work with SEBX.
Todd Hunter
Vice President
He has over 25 years experience in directing and participating in the acquisiton and disposition of businesses large and small. First as a CPA for a large public accounting firm and then as CFO, COO and CEO positions in food service, Retail / Wholesale Book Selling and a long stint with a Landscape Equipment Manufacturing Company. He has assisted in all areas of the startup, buying and selling of businesses for those industries as well as for a mid level investment banking firm. Todd understands the needs and concerns of owners who are uncertain of what direction to take their company, whether to sell, or to develop and execute a plan for growth and is also aware of the business and emotional issues an owner faces during the selling process. He has been involved in extensive estate planning, deal structure and investment planning.
